Trusted Drainage Services in Metairie, LA
CMC’s Services builds practical water management systems to keep heavy storms from turning your yard into a swamp. Over 11 years working in Jefferson Parish, we have seen how torrential rain, flat lots, and tight clay soil combine to pool water against foundation slabs and destroy turf. If water sits in your yard after every downpour, call (504) 329-0791 to set up an on-site evaluation.
Why Water Sits in Jefferson Parish Yards
Metairie sits low, and local ground takes a long time to absorb heavy rainfall. Underneath topsoil lies thick gumbo clay that fills up quickly and stays soaked for days. During summer downpours, thousands of gallons of water hit your roof and lawn in under an hour. Without a direct path to the street, that runoff pools in landscape beds, saturates grass roots, and collects against slab foundations.
A proper drainage setup gives that water a clear route out. We measure elevation changes across your lot—even minor drops of an inch or two—and install underground piping, surface boxes, and sloped channels that move runoff to municipal storm drains before it causes structural damage.
Sloped Turf and Surface Swales
Re-shaping problem areas of your lawn makes a big difference. We cut shallow swales and adjust soil pitch so water flows naturally toward catch points instead of settling in low spots. This keeps turf firm underfoot even after hours of continuous rain.
Subsurface Underground Drains
When water sits deep in the soil, standard surface grates will not clear it. We dig targeted trenches, line them with geotextile fabric, lay perforated pipe over a gravel bed, and backfill the trench. Subsurface water seeps into the pipe and flows away before saturating root zones or pushing against concrete footings.
Catch Basins and Grates
Low spots near patios, driveways, or garden beds need instant relief during intense rain. Heavy-duty catch basins sit flush with your ground to collect surface pooling immediately. Top grates block leaves and twigs while letting high volumes of runoff pour into underground lines.
Burying Gutter Runoff
Roof runoff is often the single biggest cause of standing water next to a house. A single downspout dumps hundreds of gallons right at your foundation wall. We connect downspouts directly to solid schedule 40 PVC pipe buried underground, routing roof water away from the home.
Fixing Crushed or Clogged Lines
Old thin-walled drain lines tend to collapse under lawn equipment, clog with tree roots, or fill with sediment over time. We locate blocked or broken sections, flush out built-up silt, and replace crushed lines with smooth-wall rigid pipe built to last.
Holding Topsoil and Mulch in Place
Fast-moving rainwater strips topsoil, washes away expensive mulch, and cuts deep grooves into sloped ground. We use stacked stone, gravel borders, and controlled discharge points to slow down heavy currents so your soil stays where it belongs.

Had an issue with a city ordinance that should not exist and CMC made it right by fixing it free of charge! The rest of their work is very clean and exactly how they said it would be! Drainage work was much better and cleaner than expected. Their crew cleans up after themselves and leave no messes behind!Posted on Google![]()

CMC Services just completed an amazing project covering our entire front of our house including new concrete driveways. The project involved demolition of all existing cement and grass with a new design for two separate driveways instead of the former circular driveway plus the addition of turf and decorative cement squares across the entire front and two new gardens with new pavers. From the moment we received their estimate last fall to the beginning of the project in February, our project manager, Matt was exceptional to work with and maintained communication with us throughout the entire project. We also spoke with Corey, the owner, several times once the project began and at the time of conclusion. We cannot say enough about how terrific the entire staff of workers were who worked on this project. The workers were polite, responsive, timely and ever so patient with any inquiry or change we made. The two supervisors of the project, Julio for the concrete and framing part, and Carlo for the turf and garden part, demonstrated exceptional leadership with their team of workers. Everything ran completely as scheduled and it was a seamless process. Deliveries of supplies and dumpsters ran just like clockwork to minimize disruption on the street and for our neighbors. We have never been so thrilled with the outcome of any work being done as we have with this project and we have had endless visitors stopping to ask who did the work and how to contact the company responsible for the change because it is so spectacular looking in the entire neighborhood. We LOVE the outcome and would HIGHLY recommend CMC Services for any concrete, landscaping, turf installation, pavers, driveway design and garden work needs. Exceptional quality and exceptional customer service from initial contact to project completion!!!Posted on Google![]()

Common Drainage Questions
How do I tell if my yard has a real drainage problem?
Watch for simple signs after heavy rain: water pooling against your slab foundation, lawn patches that stay squishy days later, mulch washing across driveways, or persistent standing puddles. Left unchecked, standing water rots lawn roots and attracts insects. An on-site evaluation helps determine whether simple regrading or buried drain pipes will solve the issue.
Catch basin vs. French drain: What's the difference?
Catch basins target surface water. They sit flush with the ground, using a box and grate to collect large puddles quickly during heavy downpours. Subsurface French drains handle groundwater. They use perforated pipe buried in gravel to catch water rising underneath the lawn before it reaches foundation footings.
Do you work right here in Metairie?
Yes, CMC’s Services works daily throughout Metairie and surrounding Jefferson Parish neighborhoods. Working locally means we understand local soil composition and flat yard elevations. Call (504) 329-0791 to discuss your yard and schedule a site evaluation.
How many days does installation take?
Most residential jobs take between one and three days. Single-downspout extensions or simple catch basin setups often take a single day. Larger projects with extensive trenching, gravel placement, and sod restoration usually run two to three days. We give you a clear schedule before work starts.
Can bad runoff really mess up a slab foundation?
Yes. Torrential rain causes clay soil around a slab to swell. When dry weather returns, the clay shrinks away. This repeated expansion and contraction puts immense pressure on footings, causing concrete settling and wall cracks. Piping water away from your perimeter stops these extreme moisture shifts.
What kind of upkeep do these systems need?
Maintenance is simple but necessary. Clear leaves and grass off surface grates every few weeks. Clean roof gutters twice a year so leaves do not enter underground lines. Rinsing main exit pipes with a garden hose once a year prevents fine sediment from building up inside.
How do you figure out where the pipes should go?
We check natural ground contours, soil density, high water lines, and roof runoff points during an in-person site walk. We trace water paths and check utility markers, then calculate the pipe pitch and diameter needed to carry heavy rainwater without backing up.
Why does rain puddle so badly around here?
Yards pool water due to low elevation, high water tables, and clay soil that resists absorption. Many older properties were built without enough slope toward street gutters. When severe Gulf storms drop heavy rain, water collects faster than ground can soak it up.
